What are the prizes? How do I get my prize if I win?
1st place will receive $2500 cash at the end of the race, 2nd an iPad, and 3rd place a gift certificate for dinner for 4 to a TBD restaurant. If the winner is not present, he/she will be able to pick up their prize at our administrative office located at 100 W. Verano Ave, Sonoma, CA 95476. If the winner is unable to pick up the cash, we will mail him/her a check.
How much do ducks cost? When I buy a duck, what will I receive… a toy duck?
Ducks are $10 each and we offer a discount when you purchase multiple ducks. When we receive your payment we will mail you an adoption certificate. The certificate can be used simply as a keepsake.
Do I need to know my duck number if I win?
You do not need to know your number. Every duck will be randomly assigned a number that corresponds to the name of its adoptee. When a duck wins a given stage, its number will be used to call up the name of its adoptee in the BGCSV’s database.
How does the duck race work?
On race day, we will bring all the adopted ducks and release them into the Gundlach Bundschu Winery pond. There, with the help of the Schellville Firestation the ducks will race to the finish line.
If I am not present, how will I be notified if I win?
If you are not present, the Ducky Derby Committee will contact you by email or by phone. You will be able to pick up your prize at our office in the Maxwell Clubhouse located at 100 W. Verano Avenue in Sonoma. If you are unable to pick up your prize we will mail it to you.
If I purchase a duck, is my purchase tax deductible?
According to IRS guidelines, you can only deduct your donation if the value is less than the donation. In the case of Duck Derby, each duck is valued at $0.50 so count how many ducks you purchased and deduct that from your total purchase price to see your deductible total.
Do I need anything to attend the race?
No, the race is open to the public and is free of charge.
Can I buy ducks on Race Day?
If we do not sell out of ducks, we will offer all available ducks for sale the day of the race. But your best bet is to buy yours early!
What is the time of the event (start-finish)?
The event is on Sunday, August 21st and begins at 10:30am and closes at 1:30pm.
Will there be food & drink at the race?
There will be food vendors selling lunch from 10:30am – 1:30pm. Gundlach Bundschu will also be selling wine by the glass & bottle at the event. You are welcome to bring your own picnic lunch as well.
Are there any other activities planned for Race Day?
Are there ever! We will have a special area for kids with fun activities and games.
How much will the parking cost/what type of parking is available?
Parking is free and is located at the Gundlach Bundschu pond area. There will be parking attendants there to help guide you.
